§ Lord HOUGHTON of SOWERBYasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether live animals for simulated car crashes are used by motor manufacturers in this country; whether the use of animals for this purpose would fall within the definition of an experiment under the Cruelty to Animals Act 1152WA 1876; and if so whether any licences for such use would be granted.
Lored BELSTEADSuch experiments would be within the scope of the Act. No authority under the Act has been granted to any motor manufacturer to use live animals for simulated car crashes in this country. Any proposal of this kind which satisfied the requirements of the Act would be referred to the Advisory Committee on Animal Experiments.
