§ Mr. George Cunninghamasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the reason for the delay in implementing the decision of 31 October 1979 to apply Burnham further education salary scale to professional staff at London music colleges; and what par- 84W liamentary approval is being sought in that connection.
§ Dr. BoysonThere has been no avoidable delay. Since 31 October the three colleges have been engaged on the very detailed calculations needed for the implementation of the decision. These have just been submitted to the Department and are under discussion. The intention is to introduce the first phase before the end of this financial year and the second phase in 1980–81. Parliamentary approval will be sought in the Supplementary Estimates 1979–80 for the first phase and through the Supply Estimates 1980–81 for the second.
