asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were waiting to be admitted to hospitals in Bury area health authority area at the most recent count; and if he will detail the category of treatment required.

On 30 September 1979 there were 1,089 people waiting to be admitted to hospitals within the Bury area health authority area. The numbers for individual specialties were:

General Surgery 142
Ear, Nose and Throat 217
Traumatic and Orthopaedics 181
Dental Surgery 34
Gynaecology 515
