HC Deb 04 February 1980 vol 978 c46W
37. Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he is satisfied with the powers given to the British Airports Authority to fix the level of airport security charges falling on passengers.

Mr. Tebbit

The British Airports Authority is required by regulation to pay into the aviation security fund a levy of £1.60 per arriving passenger. The levy rate is fixed by Parliament, but the authority is at liberty to decide how to pass it on to airlines.
