HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c363W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the loss to the Exchequer involved in the zero value added tax rating of (a) newspapers and (b) magazines.

Mr. Peter Rees

It is estimated that the zero-rating of newspapers and books has reduced the revenue by about £150 million and £50 million respectively in a full year.
