HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 cc384-5W
Miss Maynard

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies there have been in the poultry industry this year.

Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many firms in the poultry industry have had to pay off workers this year; and if he will list them;

(2) what estimate he has made of the number of workers made redundant in the poultry industry over the last 12 months.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that records of redundancies confirmed to its due to occur are analysed by industry in accordance with the Standard Industrial Classification. This does not separately identify the poultry industry which is included either under agriculture or bacon curing, meat and fish products. It is not possible to isolate figures relating to poultry rearing and processing.
