Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the percentage increase in (a) the money supply, (b) the velocity of circulation, (c) gross domestic product and (d) manufacturing output in the periods from the third quarter of 1971 to the first quarter of 1974, from the first quarter of 1974 to the third quarter of 1977, and from the first quarter of 1979 to date.

The information can be obtained or derived from the sources described below.Money supply and velocity of circulation: page 138 in Economic Trends Annual Supplement 1980 Edition (the 1981 Edition will be published on 18 December) with the most recent figures up to the second quarter of 1980 from Financial Statistics, table 7.1 (continued). For the third quarter of 1980, money supply figures will be published in the Bank of England Quarterly Bulletin for December 1980, table 11.3, and velocity of circulation figures will be included in the December issue of Financial Statistics.

Gross domestic product: page 132 of Economic Trends, October 1980, which gives the latest estimates at current and constant prices in index number form up to the second quarter of 1980. Provisional estimates for the third quarter of 1980 will published by press notice on 19 December.

Manufacturing output: page 76 in Economic Trends Annual Supplement 1980 Edition (the 1980 Edition will be published on 18 December) with the most recent figures up to the third quarter of 1980 from Economic Trends, page 26.
