HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c334W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of applications for mobility allowance is granted; and what are the main grounds for refusal.

Mr. Prentice

The current position (as at 12 December 1980) is that since the inception of the scheme in 1976 some 70 per cent. of claims for mobility allowance have been successful. In the overwhelming majority of unsuccessful claims, the reason for disallowance was that the medical conditions of inability or virtual inability to walk were not satisfied.
