HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 cc399-400W
Mr. Bob Dunn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what approaches have been made to his Department in respect of funds to renovate Ingress Abbey, Greenhithe.

Mr. Monro

An application for grant towards the cost of repairs to Ingress Abbey was received by my right hon. Friend earlier this year. The application was refused on the advice of the Historic Buildings Council for England, which considered that, although the building is of special historic or architectural interest and so deserves statutory protection, it is not of the outstanding quality which is a necessary qualification for grant under the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act 1953.
