HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 cc328-9W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any evidence that the level of compensation awarded by courts in Scotland of industrial injuries is lower in Scotland than for similar claims and awards in English courts; and what further consideration he will give to this matter.

Mr. Fairgrieve

The level of compensation awarded varies according to the circumstances of the individual case, and I have no information from which conclusions as to the general level of awards by Scottish courts could be drawn. The Scottish Law Commission has been reviewing various aspects of the law of damages, and my right hon. Friend has no current proposals for any additional review.
