asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report the figures comparing the rise in consumer prices to export prices in Japan and the United Kingdom in the period 1952 to 1979.

The volume of Japanese exports increased nearly 40-fold over this period, mainly in electrical and other machinery. Economies in scale and technological developments have contributed to the holding down of export prices.
