HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c330W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence to what extent purchases of ammunition are being reduced; and what effect the reduced supply will have on (a) practice firing and (b) reserve stocks.

Mr. Hayhoe

Expenditure on conventional ammunition for the Services in 1979–80 and 1980–81 (forecast) is as follows (Survey 80 prices):

1979–80 1980–81
£104 million £134 million

Overall, there has been no significant change in training or stock levels in the last two years, although the industrial dispute at ROF Bishopton has caused some particular shortages.
