HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c258W
29. Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy towards the admission into the United Kingdom of refugees from other countries whose lives are in grave danger for political reasons.

Mr. Whitelaw

Applicants in the United Kingdom are considered in accordance with the immigration rules and the United Nations convention and protocol relating to the status of refugees. Applicants abroad may be accepted if they have ties with this country or under the special programme for Vietnamese refugees.
