Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the increased output per worker as a percentage per annum from 1963 onwards; and how these figures compare with the rest of the United Kingdom in each year.

(i) Figures for output per manufacturing employee are derived from indices of production, and employment statistics, and show changes with the effect of inflation removed.

(ii) Northern Ireland figures are not adjusted for changes in stock levels.

(iii) For 1980 an average figure has been estimated for the year as a whole from statistics for the first nine months of the year.

(iv) Figures are rounded to the nearest 0.5 per cent.
