HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c313W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps are being taken to consider the interests of the consumer in the context of the Joint Advisory Committee on Building Society Mortgage Finance.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

I have been asked to reply.

As I explained to the hon. Member in a letter dated 29 October, the joint advisory committee monitors conditions in the owner-occupied housing market and keeps the Building Societies Association and Government Departments abreast of developments of mutual concern. Although consumers' interests are not specifically within the committee's remit, its members have constantly in mind the respective requirements of borrowers and investors.
