HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c248W
Mr. Myles

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will make a statement about the development of the Clyde oilfield.

Mr. David Howell

In my statement of 23 July on oil depletion policy I announced that the Government would consider delaying the development of some oilfields, discovered after 1975, in order to prolong high levels of United Kingdom production to the end of the century, I am today informing the BNOC, the operator of the Clyde field, and its field partners Shell and Esso, that I have decided as part of that policy that the development of the Clyde field be deferred by two years.
