HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c300W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which local authority has refused to support hostels for alcoholics in its area from 1 April 1981; which hostels are involved; and what the reasons have been

Sir George Young

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Buckingham (Mr. Benyon) on 4 December—about alternative funding for 35 hostels for alcoholics when the Department's grants end before 1 April 1981. One hostel, run by the Hampshire Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders, is expected to have adequate income from that date without financial support from the Hampshire county council, which has undertaken to fund an associated HACRO hostel, and had already taken over from the Department the funding of two other hostels.
