HC Deb 17 December 1980 vol 996 cc191-2W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if, in view of the public disquiet apparent in Londonderry at the decision of the Londonderry district council to alter the use of soccer pitches at the Waterside, Londonderry so that they will be used for Gaelic football, he will hold a public inquiry into the decision.

Mr. Goodhart

No. The proposal differs from other recent cases in that the land in question is already in recreational use. And, as planning permission is not required, there is no basis on which the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland can intervene.
