Mr. King

At 1 October 1980 the total number of permanent employees of the English water authorities, on a full-time equivalent basis, was as follows:

Anglian 6,740
Northumbrian 2,276
North West 9,144

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a table for each of the regional water authorities in England and Wales, showing their level of total expenditure for each since their inception, adjusted to constant prices.

Mr. Fox

The following table shows the total expenditure (capital plus revenue expenditure) for each water authority at constant prices.

Mr. King

The level of rate support grant to the council will depend on its decisions about expenditure during 1981–82, according to general principles set out in the report which I laid before the House yesterday.
