§ Mr. Gummerasked the Secretary of State for Industry what is his Department's estimate of the number of jobs saved by regional aid in each of the last five years and at what Government cost per job.
§ Mr. David MitchellNew jobs can be created, or existing jobs saved, by such measures only at the expense of some jobs lost elsewhere. It is not, therefore, possible to estimate the net effect of regional aid measures, nor the cost to the taxpayer per net job created.
