HC Deb 17 December 1980 vol 996 c184W

14. Mr. Les Huckfield asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will hold discussions with the Building Societies Association and with local authority representatives about the position of those who, through redundancy, are unable to meet mortgage commitments and who find it difficult to be re-housed by local authorities.

Mr. Finsberg

No. There is no evidence of increased homelessness because of redundancy. I understand that the building societies and other lenders are generally sympathetic and flexible in their approach to any mortgagor who because of changed circumstances finds it difficult to meet his mortgage commitments.
