§ Lord BelsteadChief officers of police are responsible for the care and custody of prisoners held in police custody on police premises. Police authorities have a general responsibility to provide and maintain these police premises. But the additional costs incurred by police authorities in accommodating these prisoners will be reimbursed by the prison department of the Home Office.
