Capital Taxation and the National Heritage

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the revised edition of the Treasury memorandum on capital taxation and the national heritage, originally issued in March 1977, will be published.

The new memorandum is being issued today. It has been extensively revised to reflect changes in the legislation since 1977, in particular the provisions of the Finance Act 1980. The revision has been carried out in consultation with other Government Departments concerned and with advisory bodies in all parts of the United Kingdom. Comments and suggestions by other bodies and individuals concerned with the preservation of our national heritage have also been taken into account. I have arranged for copies of the memorandum to be placed in the Library.
