§ Mr. FowlerWith some 15,000 car test garages, carrying out about 15 million tests each year, it is inevitable that complaints will arise, in spite of the work my Department does in supervision and standards control. The car test scheme nevertheless makes a real contribuiton to road safety. The new goods vehicle testing scheme will be much easier to supervise—there are only 91 test centres—and I am confident that we shall be able to maintain the consistent and impartial standards of the present Government-run scheme.
