§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the Official Report the level of fees an overseas student would have paid at each of the Scottish universities in each of the last five years for the following courses: (a) medicine, (b) arts and (c) science; and if he will list the fees acticipated for the session 1981–82.
§ Dr. BoysonThe tuition fees recommended for overseas student at all universities in the United Kingdom for the last five years have been as follows:
1976–77 to 1979–80 All Subjects Academic years Postgraduates Undergraduates £ £ 1976–77 416 416 1977–78 850 650 1978–79 925 705 1979–80 1,230 940 In 1980–81 the recommended fees in all subjects for overseas students in mid-course were £1,525 for postgraduates and £1,165 for undergraduates. For overseas students beginning courses in 1980–81 universities were recommended to charge such fees as they considered necessary to meet the cost of the education in question, subject to a minimum per annum of £2,000 for an arts course, £3,000 for a science course, and £5,000 for the clinical years of courses in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science. Fees levels for 1981–82 are under consideration.
