§ The Prime MinisterThe system of subsidised differential fees for all overseas students was still in existence in 1979–80. In that year the subsidy for Iranian students was £10.3 million. From September 1980 onwards this indiscriminate general subsidy for overseas students is being progressively withdrawn.
