§ Mr. Lawson[pursuant to his reply, 15 December 1980]: The Government would like to see lower interest rates, but the timing of any further changes in MLR must depend on monetary conditions and on our continued success in bringing down inflation. We expect both monetary growth and inflation to be lower in the new year.
