HC Deb 15 December 1980 vol 996 c52W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress he has made in resolving the areas to be covered by enterprise zones; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. King

The proposed boundaries for the Salford/Trafford enterprise zone are being considered by the councils: and I hope that the statutory processes leading to designation will begin very soon. Discussions are continuing with the local authorities concerned with the other enterprise zones proposed in England (Newcastle/Gateshead, Speke, Dudley and Corby): in these areas the statutory procedures should begin early in the new year. The shadow London Docklands Development Corporation is preparing proposals for the Isle of Dogs zone.

I hope to announce in the new year the location of a further enterprise zone in the North of England.
