Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of registered disabled persons in the (a) Walsall travel-to-work area and (b) West Midlands region who are unemployed; and what were the figures for May 1979.

[pursuant to his reply, 9 December 1980]: I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that at 9 October 1980, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 668 registered disabled persons unemployed in the Walsall travel-to-work area, and 6,952 in the West Midlands region. The comparable figures for 10 May 1979 were 550 and 5,998 respectively.

In addition to the numbers of registered disabled people unemployed on 9 October 1980, there were a further 926 unregistered disabled people unemployed in the Walsall travel-to-work area, and 11,533 unregistered in the West Midlands region. The comparable figures for 10 May 1979 were 754 and 8,443 respectively.
