§ Mrs. Sally OppenheimYes. The Registrar of Friendly Societies has certain statutory responsibilities to protect the interests of both investors in and borrowers from building societies. The Director General of Fair Trading is required to monitor the provision of services to consumers and has powers to take action against practices which may adversely affect the interests of consumers.
