§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will ensure that people whose incomes are sufficiently low will be entitled to receive either supplementary benefit or family income supplement if the low level of their income results from short-time working and a payment under the temporary short-time working compensation scheme;
(2) whether a person receiving wages for short-time work and a payment under the temporary short-time working compensation scheme is eligible for supplementary benefit; how (a) the number of hours actually worked and (b) the number of hours for which a payment is made affects the eligibility; and if he will make a statement;
