HC Deb 11 December 1980 vol 995 c458W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what savings he expects to be made by disallowing social security and supplementary benefits for (a) school leavers not intending to resume non-advanced education but treated as still being in full time education and (b) young persons ceasing to attend school at Christmas or Easter but due to take examinations in the following summer.

Mrs. Chalker

The deferment of entitlement to supplementary benefit of school leavers is expected to produce a net saving of £4 million a year. I regret that it is not possible to produce a valid disaggregation of the sum in the way requested.
