HL Deb 10 December 1980 vol 415 c796WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will contribute towards the fulfilment of the aims of the United Nations Water Decade, in view of the commitment by third world representatives at the United Nations Assembly to proceed with the provision of drinking water and sanitation and their undertaking to meet most of the cost themselves.

The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (Lord Carrington)

Her Majesty's Government will do all they can within the limits of available resources to encourage and support the United Nations Water Decade activities and to ensure that the British manufacturers and contractors are aware of its importance. The overseas aid programme will continue to reflect the importance of water-related projects. British institutions have much to offer in the training field and the facilities available will be widely publicised.
