§ Mr. FowlerThe Transport Act 1980 removed unnecessary restrictions on car sharing and new forms of public transport. I am publicising the opportunities this gives for saving fuel. My Department regularly issues information about the fuel consumption of more than 800 models of cars, and I am considering with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy further publicity to encourage economical driving. Motor manufacturers are making encouraging progress towards the voluntary target of a 10 per cent. improvement in the fuel economy of cars by 1985, and I am discussing with them more demanding targets for the longer term.
