HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 c348W
Mr. Ennals

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the nature of the ecological damage lately sustained by each of the internationally important wetlands of Hickling Broad and Horsey Mere, the Bure Marshes, Lindisfarne and Cors Fochno has been reported to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National Resources, as required by articles 3(2) and (8) of the Ramsar convention.

Mr. Monro

Details of the changes due to human interference at Hickling Broad and Horsey Mere and Cors Fochno are contained in the United Kingdom national report submitted to the IUCN in July 1980. There had been some damage to the Bure Marshes in the past, but since the site was listed under the Ramsar convention steps have been taken by the Nature Conservancy Council to halt this and there has been no further deterioration to report. No ecological damage has been recorded on the Rasmar site at Lindisfarne. There has been damage caused by overgrazing in an adjacent dune system within the grade 1 site, but this is outside the boundaries of the Rasmar site.
