§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the names and locations of hospitals possessing operational fully equipped intensive and special care baby units; how many such units there are; and how many intensive and special care baby cots there are in each hospital.
§ Sir George YoungAs stated in my reply to the hon. Member on 28 November—[Vol. 994, c.293–96.]—the provision of intensive care for babies is a regional specialty. Details of the numbers of combined special and intensive care baby units and the numbers of cots available, as at March 1980, were given to the Social Services Committee and have been published in Volume V, pages 96–7, of its second report—(Session 1979–80 (HC 663-V)).
Information about the location of the 243 hospitals having special care baby units and the numbers of cots they provide is given in the table below. The information relates to 1978, the latest year for which data are available.
