HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 c325W
16. Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current estimated number of employees on short-time working in the United Kingdom; and how this compares with November 1979.

Mr. Jim Lester

Information is available only for operatives in manufacturing industries in Great Britain. The numbers on short-time working, either for the whole or for part of the week in the weeks ended 13 September 1980 and 10 November 1979, were 368,000 and 64,700, respectively.
