HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 cc323-4W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if then: are any plans to build a dual carriageway in Mid-Wales during the next five years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Roberts

Work has recently been completed on the Brecon southern bypass which is a dual carriageway. Short lengths of dual carriageway astride junctions are also incorporated in the Dolgellau bypass which is due to be opened next spring and some dual carriageway trunk road is being considered for the Welshpool relief roads scheme. The actual date of starts for the latter scheme is dependent on the satisfactory completion of the statutory procedures and on the availability of funds at that time. Generally speaking, however, traffic needs on trunk roads in Mid-Wales are met by the provision of good standard single carriageway roads.
