HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 cc322-3W
Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the £35 million allocated by the Government to protect and improve provision for non-teaching costs will be allocated to Welsh education authorities; and how much has been allocated to date.

Mr. Michael Roberts

The figure of £35 million, which is an England-only figure, relates to the whole period covered in the last public expenditure White Paper—Cmnd 7841—revalued to November 1979 prices. The equivalent Welsh figure amounts to £2.1 million. Of the combined England and Wales provision of £37.1 million, some £8 million was allowed for in the 1980–81 RSG settlement which was made on an England and Wales basis. Under the RSG system the way money is spent is a matter- for the local authorities to determine themselves.
