HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 c334W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to reduce unemployment in Hull.

Mr. Jim Lester

In the longer term, employment prospects in Hull, as elsewhere in the country, depend on our success in the battle against inflation. In the meantime, Hull stands to benefit from the extra £250 million which is to be allocated nationally to the 1981–82 programme of special measures to help the unemployed. And, as a development area, Hull will continue to attract a high level of regional assistance.
