§ Mr. ChannonMy right hon. and noble Friend the Lord President of the Council opened discussions with the Council of Civil Service Unions on 1 August about the Government's proposed improvements to the Civil Service pay research system for the longer term. The Civil Service pay agreement has been suspended for the 1981 pay settlement, but the Government have told the unions that they want the discussions to continue. We shall be considering the future work of the unit in the light of decisions on Civil Service pay for the future.
