HC Deb 04 December 1980 vol 995 c172W
Sir David Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total reduction in public expenditure since he took office, expressed at annual rates based on the programme that he inherited.

Mr. Biffen

Current estimates of outturn in 1979–80 and 1980–81 suggest that in both years the reduction in the planning total — after shortfall — in volume terms compared with the plans we inherited from the previous Government will be more than 3 per cent.
