Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will publish his Department's estimate of the costs of implementing the category (b) recommendation in the second report of the Social Services Committee on perinatal and neonatal mortality.

The costs would depend on numerous decisions taken up and down the country and no exact calculation is possible. The following table shows a lower level and a higher level between which the Department judges that the costs would be likely to fall.
