HC Deb 04 December 1980 vol 995 cc164-5W
Mr. Moyle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will list the persons and bodies with whom he conducted discussions before he decided that there is no place for a commercial company in the management of the National Blood Transfusion Service or blood products laboratory at Elstree.

Dr. Vaughan

I received advice from a number of persons and bodies concerned with the blood transfusion service, including the scientific and technical committee for the Central Blood Laboratories. The Department has had exploratory discussions on a number of different aspects with various bodies including some commercial companies. I think it would have been irresponsible not to have at least explored all possibilities which might have been of benefit to the service. These discussions were confidential and it would be improper for me to list the details.
