§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many independent establishments of further education there are in Scotland; what subjects they teach; how many are considered efficient by his Department; and if he will list these.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherI have no information about the number of independent further education establishments in Scotland. Four such establishments have been granted recognition by my Department, each in respect of its efficiency in the teaching of English as a foreign language. They are
- The Basil Paterson College, Edinburgh
- The Edinburgh Language Foundation
- The Edinburgh School of English Studies
- The English Language School of Air Services Training, Perth.
The arrangements under which independent further education establishments may apply for recognition by my Department will be discontinued by 1 April 1982.
