Mr. Freud

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will list the cases of Aujeszky's disease in East Anglia for each of the last eight quarters; and whether he is satisfied with the steps his Department is taking in respect of containing the disease.

I outlined the Government's policy on Aujeszky's disease in my statement of 24 June. in the meantime, the veterinary service continues to provide advice to owners of pig herds on the best methods of avoiding infection and to support veterinarians in private practice where they require it.

Discussions with representative organisations are being arranged on the action which they have proposed.

Reported outbreaks of the disease in East Anglia over the past eight complete quarters were as follows:
