HC Deb 02 December 1980 vol 995 cc134-5W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends fully to ratify the EEC directive of 15 July 1980 (80/836/Euratom) on basic safety standards for the health protection of the general public and works against the dangers of radiation.

Mr. Mayhew

I have been asked to reply.

The United Kingdom is required to implement the requirements of this directive by December 1982. To enable the United Kingdom to do so, proposals for regulations and approved codes of practice under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 will be published by the Health and Safety Commission in mid-1981, and associated action is being taken by several Government Departments. No question of ratification arises.
