asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will make a statement on the state of negotiations concerning the future of the Falkland Islands.

Following exploratory talks with the Argentine Government in April, I visited the Falkland Islands to consult islanders on their views and to see whether a basis exists for further talks with the Argentines it is the Government's aim to achieve a solution which would be acceptable to all parties. No solution can be: agreed without the endorsement of the islanders as well as that of this House.
