§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, pursuant to the reply of the Undersecretary of State for the Environment, the hon. Member for Hampstead (Mr. Finsberg), on 12 July 1979, he will make a statement on his policy regarding the proposed European Economic Commission directive on architectural qualifications.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergThe Government are generally in favour of measures which facilitate the freer movement of architects within Europe, provided they include adequate safeguards for professional standards within the United Kingdom. The Council of Ministers discussed the draft directive in Brussels on 22 July but did not reach agreement. I remain in close touch with representatives of the profession, and will consult them before a final decision is taken on the directive.
