§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in the light of the high cost of rebuilding 20 fire service drill towers belonging to Suffolk county council so that they will conform to his latest circular on health and safety and the fact that the towers have been pronounced safe by the county architect, he will postpone the date by which he expects the county fire service to conform to these new regulations.
Mr. BritianThe improved standard for safety in fire service drill towers recommended in the guidance contained in Fire Service circular No. 3/1979 have been agreed with the Health and Safety Executive. The implementation of that guidance is a matter for individual fire authorities. The Home Office has not suggested a timescale for the completion of work carried out in accordance with circular 3/1979.
